St. Andrews Place

St. Andrew's Place is a wonderful mission of our church.

Saint Andrews was formed from a bequest of Stephen F. McCready to First Presbyterian Church in honor of his wife, Isabel Bennett McCready.

First Baptist, First Christian, and First Methodist Churches made a covenant with First Presbyterian Church to establish Saint Andrews Retirement Community.

St. Andrews is home to 75 owner owned condominiums for retirees. The condos are the first phase of a Complete Continuum of Care Retirement Community.

Today McCready Manor is a Certified Assisted Living Community.

Residents can receive help with every day duties—such as cooking, cleaning, and transportation.

As originally promised, Telford Terrace completed the continuum of care by offering nursing care on the campus. Currently offering 50 beds (personal care, intermediate care, nursing home) and Telford is Medicare certified.

Boy Scouts

The troop meets at the church every Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:00.

Our mission is to provide wholesome value-based activities for boys age 11 through 18.  We want them to have fun sharing experiences with friends in the Troop while they learn valuable character developing life lessons.  We strive to develop honest, confident young men who know what it means to be leaders and good citizens.   And, of course, we strive to help each boy discover a respect for nature and love of the outdoors.

Marshall-Moretz Dinner

Since 1981, First Presbyterian Church has hosted an annual Christmas Eve dinner for the lonely, poor and/or homeless of Richmond.  Inspired by Rev. Bill Young’s Advent sermons praising Peter Marshall’s similar ministry to the homeless of Washington, D.C., Richmond’s effort has been from the beginning, a ministry of the entire congregation.

Community Missions

First Presbyterian Church has a strong commitment to helping those less fortunate. In many ways both small and large this congregation reaches out to those in need.

There are several community missions that First Presbyterian Church support.  They are:

Salvation Army

Food Bank

In a effort to help the needy of our community, First Presbyterian Church also provides a food bank. We try to provide items to make a meal with.  Ours is only a small food bank with the purpose of providing a few meals until other arrangements can be made.

We typically help those needing to fill in the gap before they receive their food stamps or those with immediate transporation issues that prevent them from obtaining food in other manners.

At times it has be supplimented from grants from Translyvania Presbytery's Committee on Missions.

Furniture Bank

First Presbyterian Church provides a much needed service to the Madison County community by collecting and redistributing used furniture.  A few places sell used furniture, but no other church or agency in the area provides this service.

Once furniture is donated, our Director of Missions, Monica Tillie, screens applicants to disceren their needs.  Then arrangements are made for them to pick up the items from our storage.

If you live in the Madison County area and are in need of furniture, please contact Monica at the church at 623-5323 ext 3.

Love Fund

The Love Fund was created to have a special account to help those in need.  The congregation gives generously to this fund which the Director of Missions, Monica Tillie, administers.

On Monday's, Monica meets with members of the community from 1:30-3:30, to assess their needs and see how the church can help.  On Wednesday's, Grace Gutekunst meets with people from 1:30-3:30.

Monica & Grace both have years of experience in helping others and can provide helpful information and referrals, as the needs dictate.
