Chancel Choir

Richmond's First Presbyterian Church has always had a tradition of musical excellence. It is as if it were "ordained" to be so. The Rev. C. Sumpter Logan, Sr. put it into words so eloquently. During worship on Sunday, May 31, 1981, Dr. Logan proclaimed, "Music in church can help prepare a congregation for a better understanding of what meaning heaven has!"

Joyce Wolf is the Director of Music and leads the Choir each Sunday.

The Choir is always accepting new members, who would like to share their musical ability with our congregation and in service to the Lord.

Brown E. Telford Organ

In 1965 a mechanical-action, free-standing, 2 manual, 30 rank, tracker action Casavant organ was purchased. The organ was delivered in 1967, with its first use in worship on November 12, 1967. The Board of Deacons voted unanimously to call the new organ "The Brown E. Telford Organ" in recognition of Miss Telford's years of devoted service to the church as a member and as organist from 1918 to 1962. At present it is valued at over $600,000. It is a breath-taking site to see and one of the unique and cherished aspects of our Church.

Memorial Bell Choir

We have recently hired a new Bell Choir Director, Lynne Parks.  We will be playing a few times before summer break!  So listen up!

Also, if you are interested in playing the bells, please contact the church office or come to practice at 5:00 on Wednesday nights!

The Memorial Bell ChoirThe church has a complete 5-octave set of Schulmerich hand bells, all of which were given as memorials to individuals (hence the name, Memorial Bell Choir) and a 3-octave set of choir chimes. The Memorial Bell Choir began in 1968. The group plays several times a year during church services. The Children's Chime Choir also plays during services. The Children's Chime Choir is lead by Sue Reeves. Their beautiful music enhances our worship service immensely.
