Chancel Choir

Richmond's First Presbyterian Church has always had a tradition of musical excellence. It is as if it were "ordained" to be so. The Rev. C. Sumpter Logan, Sr. put it into words so eloquently. During worship on Sunday, May 31, 1981, Dr. Logan proclaimed, "Music in church can help prepare a congregation for a better understanding of what meaning heaven has!"

Joyce Wolf is the Director of Music and leads the Choir each Sunday.

The Choir is always accepting new members, who would like to share their musical ability with our congregation and in service to the Lord.

The Choir usually meets on Wednesday nights to practice and briefly before church services on Sunday.

Samaritan Singers

Around 1990, a group of local singers, known informally as the "hospital singers" and more formally as the Samaritan Singers, was begun by chancel choir member Hee-Young Shin. Every Sunday these folk go to Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center to sing for the patients on each floor. Mrs. Shin started the group because she did it as a high school girl growing up in South Korea. It has become a meaningful instrument of our music ministry for both singers and patients! The group is made up of singers from local area churches. It is not purely a Presbyterian group, although Amy Jett and John Gump, as well as Mrs. Shin, have been with the group since its founding.
